How do external Harddisks connect to a notbook? And will USB 2.0 do the job, too?

How is a HVX connected to a notebook? Is there any additonal software needed? And how do I tell the HVX not to dump on the lame internal 4200 RPM drive, but on the fast 7200 RPM external drive, and to which directory? And as most notebooks only have one Firewire connector, should I connect the HVX or the external harddisk with USB 2.0, and the other connection with Firewire?

And to get the stutterless, dropless third setup from this post in the other forum, do I need a special Firewire port? And the Firewire port need to have six pins for every solution, right? How about the power with USB 2.0?

Pascal- If you are using a PC notebook you would want to connect it with the HVX via USB2. You would wish to connect your external drive to the computer via a Firewire 800 connection (which would probably require you to purchase a pcmcia card for the laptop). The only software you would need to transfer from the P2 comes in the box with the HVX. You can also remove the P2's from the camera and insert them in the notebook pcmcia slot to read/transfer your data.

Hope this helps.

Speaking as a mac user I would recomend only using firewire if you can. 400 or 800
I just shot a live concert with 3 hvx cameras and we used a powerbook 15" with a lacie fw 800, 500 gig hard drive. It worked very well. When we used the firestore with a usb port into the powerbook is was noticebly slower.

So, if I use a Firewire 800 card, a Firewire 400 drive is good enough?

You already have a Firestore (FS-100)?
