For my 100th post, and in celebration of the event that I am now eligible to vote in Horrorfest, I thought I'd ask the other users how they voted on the ballot. I don't mean who you voted for, I mean how.
We were given a rating system of 1-10, 10 being best. So what does that mean? For example, if there were no visual effects in the film, what number would you assign? 1? If it was a great film, giving VFX a 1 would signifigantly bring down the average and the film would not score as well. This could really hurt a great film that didn't need any VFX.
I personally used 5 as a baseline. I rated a catagory 5 if I was neither impressed nor let down. If the film had standard edits (for example) that worked, nothing terrible, nothing great, then I gave it a 5. I adjusted up or down based on that. Same would hold for other catagories; if it sounded OK it got a 5, if it sounded like crap, it got a 2 or 3, if it sounded great it got a 7, 8 or 9., You see what I mean.
I also gave lower marks in the editing catagory for no credits.
HOW did everyone else vote?
