How clean should my filter be?

I'm using a cleaning cloth that I got from EVS (don't know the brand, it was one Rush recommended) to clean my filter. After cleaning it (not using any solution, just the cloth) there's still tiny specks visible when I hold it up to the light and look closely.

Shouldn't it be getting cleaner than this? Am I doing something wrong? Or is it normal and the camera won't pick up the tiny specks?

It sounds like you need a little bit of lens cleaning solution. Your filter should be pristine because of the insane amount of depth of field of the short focal lengths typical on the DVX.

Crap. Guess that means I have to wait to get some...

Any particular brand I should get or will anything work? If there's a solution I can get at any old store that'd be great. Otherwise I'll order something from EVS (or whoever carries what I need).

I took the filter off to clean it, looked at the lens on the camera and there's a bunch of specks of dust. Upon further examination it looks like the lens is scratched.

Any ideas on what I can do or am I screwed? I've had it for about 2 weeks. Thanks guys.

I would avoid the lens cloth. Paper is much cleaner. I would avoid any solutions unless you have some real hard to remove dirt on your filter. Breathing on your filter (hold up over your head and breath up on it) and cleaning with lens tissue is the way to go.

Gary, I have been using those Schneider cloths for 3 years, never had a problem. If it's not just dust that settles on the filter after you clean it, you may have a faulty filter. Send it back to me and I will replace it. Make it "Attn Rush".

Maybe also try using a blow brush from a photo store. Don't rub the filter too hard if you use cleaning fluid, or it will remove the multicoating. I have really rarely ever used fluid, I just breathe on it, and rub gently.
