How can I test heads of a second-hand DVX100?

Hi, everybody!

I'm new to this forum, and quite impressed by all the useful tips you all share here.

I'm about to buy a used DVX100, but i'm a little concerned about how the heads can stand time of use. It's about 1 year old, and I was told it's been carefully handeld and cleaned, but I'd like to know how I can test the heads. Can anyone help?

Thank You all,
Pablo

this thread covers the usage of the 'secret' diagnostic menu: http://www.dvxuser.com/cgi-bin/DVX2/YaBB.pl?board=Events;action=display;num=1066077262;start=3#3
this way you can check the recording quality of the head, i reckon..

further more, how many head hours this camera has? was it always used with one brand of tapes? (Preferably Panasonic MQ or PQ?) is this guy you attend to buy from looks like someone who takes care of his equipment? (weird question.. but i think you know what i mean, it's something you can see).
you can always take the camera for a one hour shoot and preview this tape. how many deopouts if at all have you seen there? that's probably the best way to check imo. will take you only 2 hours to make, but then you will know.
