Make sure you are in 'Camera' mode and have a SDHC card installed. Frame up your shot, then press one of the large red 'Record' buttons. After 1 second, press the button again.

Import that clip into your favorite NLE app. Scrub the clip to the desired frame. Under 'Export Settings' select single frame. Then choose the file format (PNG works well).

Stills look best when shooting no movement, or using 24/30P.

That's your only option. But.. keep in mind this is not a picture. It's a still image taken from the camera so it's not thaat great of an image it's only 1280 x 720 most likely.

Maybe you need to go out and buy a dedicated still camera buddy. Dont' expect any award winning hi res shots from an HMC, its image is less than 2K, most DSLR's shoot 4k and up now, or at least anything over 12mp.

Thomas & Shaun have correctly pointed out the relatively small file size of the stills you'll get. That said, I just returned from a shoot in Uganda, and was quite pleased with the stills I pulled from the video (just be sure you shoot progressive and be particularly attentive to exposure and focus). If you blow up the images using either Photoshop or Genuine Fractals, do it in 110% increments until you achieve the desired size. I'm about to do that with some of the stills I pulled. I'll let you know how the final prints turn out.
