I've heavily used barrel distortion in the past using wide angle lenses along with working close to subjects, and am looking to do some experimentation with pincushioning. In particular I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to accomplish this without having to get extremely far away from the subject.
I see the one solution being a DOF adapter and searching out a sub-par lens that suffers from pincushioning, but the problem here is being very far from the subject, and the fact that there would probably be other problems with the lens.
Another option is to just shoot and then digitally pincushion the footage in post, but the problem with that is that I wouldn't be able to get a "feel" for the interesting angles.
So does anyone know of a add-on that can pincushion? Or does anyone have any ideas of a DIY hack that could be done to accomplish this?
If all else fails my one thought would be to use a wide angle to find the angles I usually find interesting with barrel effects and then copy the angles sans wide-angle and pincushion in post, but this of course would be a little tedious and probably wouldn't get me results I'd love all the time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
