How can I change from 60fps to 24fps in AVID

I finally began shooting my first video with my HVX200 camera using an FS-100. I set the camera to film at 720P at 24fps (I was told this would give the most cinema like quality). I went through all the proper instructions on using the FS-100 too and it was set to P2 mode (NOT P2N) and the footage came out very well.

However when I opened it up in AVID Express, it said that it was shot at 60fps and would not let me import the footage at 24fps. So, I created a new project at 60fps and was able to import the footage fine. I was told that there is a process that I must go through in AVID Express to change it from 60fps to 24fps, but I don't know how to do this.

If the camera was set to 24fps, was it shot in 24fps? Can anyone please help me change it in Avid Express to the desired 24fps?

Thanks.

I had the same question a while back. You're OK. The shooting format and the project format are going to be different. For your project shot in 720p/24 you will have an Avid project in 720p 59.94 or 60 (it's not 60fps). So you are doing it correctly. This link will help you determine your project type from what you shot in.

The manual goes into detail about why it does this when it records.

PS There is a special thread for Avid and other NLEs, you should post these kind of questions there.

It was shot in 24 fps, but it wasn't recorded that way. It was recorded at 60 fps -- which only means that frames were doubled so as to make a 60 fps stream. It's still 24p material and still will retain all the aesthetics.
