How can I avoid "ghostpictures"?

This is a shot with the 5D MKII. How can I avoid this

select the exact proper frame rate when exporting, if you are editing raw 30fps from camera you will either need to drop frames on your footage to get to 29.97 or transcode to cineform 29.97 before editing.

Like they said ,your canon has only 30p so you need to check whats the framerate of your project or just use simple software like avidemux to convert your footage without changing frame rate to other value,we dont know what software youre using but in most advanced editors you have project frame rate and if its 25 frames per second then after you drop 30p footage then you will get problems like this, so check some topics about converting to 25p or 23.976 .
If you dont mind 30p you can leave it like that but remember about checking project frame rate.
I dont own 5d mark II BUT some canon camcorders with hight shutter speeds can make frames like that ,i have 3 frames in one with 1/4000 shutter speed. So it doesnt have to be mistake when importing and exporting footage, try to change shutter speed( i guess its too late now).

Well admittedly I spelled "maybe" as "mebbe" but that's still phrasing that seems to indicate I know I could be wrong, thus a suggestion rather than information I know--or strongly believe--to be true, i.e. advice?

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/suggestion

something suggested, as a piece of advice: We made the suggestion that she resign.
"Advice" is listed as a synonym for "suggestion."

Additionally, no dictionary definition of "advice" is anything like what you stated your definition to be.

I felt at the time that I wrote the post that a suggestion sounded more tentative than advice--less official perhaps. As that may be, the original point I attempted to make was that I never offered any advice or suggestions that I would swear by as definite solutions, and mildly resented the presumption that I had. If I had somehow put life or equipment in danger with my advice such a rebuke might be warranted. This was not the case.

I'm not trying to be mean or harsh, just honest, so please don't take this the wrong way: If you don't know what you're talking about, then why offer any suggestions/advice? Clearly there are other people here who had better knowledge and who were contributing to this thread, so why did you feel the need to make (what you seem to admit was) a wild guess? It could've been more confusing than helpful, which was why Lee called it "erroneous advice."

Confusing is valid, but it didn't seem like an entirely wild guess at the time.
But that implies that you had reason to think that there was truth to your suggestion. Have you ever seen a camera's shutter be responsible for ghost images like what the OP posted? I dare say that you haven't because it's impossible. A camera's shutter can only cause varying degrees of motion blur depending on the shutter speed. There is physically no way that a shutter can result in one frame being translucently overlaid upon another frame.

This is a post processing error, have you done a frame rate conversion?
See other posts about this the best way is either using Compressor or better use shake.

It's what I would have tried in that situation, not the only thing but for starters. It doesn't work, so what. I'm ok with being wrong, just not with the concept that there's something bad about throwing out ideas. Even poorly thought out ones.

There's being wrong because of an honest mistake, and then there's the failure to think carefully about what you're doing and saying. If the goal is to get to the truth, the approach should not involve giving fair consideration to options that are impossible, unreasonable, or worse. That's the problem with erroneous advice.

There's nothing inherently wrong with "throwing out ideas" when nobody involved has a clue, but at the same time, nobody should respect any ideas given that are patently absurd. If you and your roommates are trying to figure out what happened to your missing keys, then how would you take the suggestion that gremlins stole them when you were all asleep?

Let's go back to what set off your reaction, your "mild resentment," as you put it. It was the phrase "erroneous advice." Was that not an accurate assessment of your original comment in this thread? Since what you suggested was impossible, unhelpful, and probably confusing, then it was erroneous. And we have already established that "suggestion" means the same thing as "advice." So why are you complaining?
