How big are your mp2 files?

I have a 5 min film and its coming in around 130mb when I do a constant bit rate of 8mbs. When I open the film in Quicktime it says the movie is like 430k per second..

It does not seem that I am getting a very good quality mp2 encode... where are you guys coming in at?

Thats without audio muxed in.

Thanks
Ben

Yea, my video is kinda jerky, I wonder if compressor is acting up. Its not the most robust app.

Jarred,

I am uploading what I got, I have to track down why my file size is half of what it should be. If it takes me a day or two to find it, will I be able to resubmit after the deadline to get you a better looking compressed file?

Mine had a strange frame issue. I think it was just due to the limitation of Compressor or the mpeg2. It would get darker every 12th frame, and it was very obvious.

I think it had to due with the darkness of my footage and the inherant dvx noise. My I-frames were set at 12 (thus two keyframes per second), so I moved to 7, upped my bitrate, and the final m2v become a bit less flashy.

My bitrate (8 avg) made a 300mb file (6 minutes long) with ~30mb audio. Yours seems quite small.

I just compressed my film and it came out a little jerky. I'm using sorenson squeeze and my settings are
video: MPEG2, 16:9, progressive.
720x480
23.976 fps
8000kbps
constant data rate
I frames: 6.

Any thoughts on what gives? I'm trying again with a I frame number of 15. I'll see if that helps. Can't wait for this to work. lol I'm excited to see everybodies stuff. :)

Hey Briceman. I must have just missed you in the "who's uploaded" list. You got me down, but I'm not there yet. sorry.

Try 29.997 fps? oh, I thought we were suppossed to be 24p and all, or does that not mean quite the same thing when compressing? I'll give it another try here. Thanks for your help. Back in a few minutes. :)

The frame rate change worked! WooHoo. Of course as soon as I viewed it one last time, I caught a mistake and am now correcting it. I'll re-compress again in a few minutes then I can start to up load. I have one quick question about the audio. I can get it embedded into the same file as the audio through sorenson squeeze, but it's only an mpeg 2 audio layer. I don't know anything about an mpeg 3 layer. Is this something I need to worry about? Thanks.

Here are the settings I used, and it turned out great:

Custom Sorenson Settings

Video Output: MPEG2
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Field Encoding: Progressive
Data Rate: 8000 kbs.
Method: Constant Bit Rate
Format: NTSC
Frame Rate: 29.97
I Frame Rate: 6 Frames

Hey briceman, I compressed with Sorenson Squeeze with those settings however I ended up with a .mpv video file and .mpa audio file. What's the deal? Do I need to combine the files or did I do something wrong?

EDIT: Whoops, my bad. I chose the wrong preset. Works now. Thanks for the settings! So I guess it's okay if it's 29.97?

Our film was 6 min. and it turned out to be 257mb. I've watched it on the computer and on a tv and on a projector and it seems to be fine. The audio is good and the picture looks good. I had used the BitViceHleper program to combine the picture/audio- I wonder if that did some kind of loss-less compression? Who knows- but I am very satisfied with the outcome.

Had a strange-o experience - used Compressor 2, compressed 8 MBITS CBR 1-pass, cropped down to 16x9 from a letterboxed 4x3. 5 mins came out to 186 MB, which seemed low, but it played back fine on VLC, although the time reading was off. Ah well, time will tell.
