How bad is it?

So I'm getting ready to shoot a business promo and I hear a loud crash, I look behind me and theres my tripod on its side and my DVX (100b) on the ground. My DVX had a LEX on it, and a 35mm on it. I checked out the letus and it seemed fine, considering that things a beast.. still worried about it tho. But the DVX was boned, the onboard mic was hanging off, and slightly crushed on the corner. Then the front end came loose at the focus ring. Everything seems to be working ok, but I really dont think the loose front is safe, and my mic is pretty messed up. How much do you guys think it would cost to have it fixed up?

Btw, my warranty is up.

One more thing, the reason I'm not running to someone to get it fixed up just yet, is because my employer is actually an old family friend, and he offered to buy me a new camera, the HMC150. We even went down to a camera shop to buy it on the same day this happened, so he seemed pretty up for getting it. But this is when I thought my camera was more messed up than it really was, (because the letus was stll on it, so it was warping the front more than it would be if the letus wasnt on it). If it can be fixed, I really dont wanna spend the cash on it to get it fixed, I'd rather save the cash and buy the HMC.

So how bad is it? Would it be reasonable for him to buy me the HMC?

The whole mic thing happened to me before. Your ribbon looks like its still attached which means the mic should be in working condition. Plug in some headphones and test it out, if it works then just unscrew the two screws on the side, place the mic back in and screw the screws back in.

Let him buy the HMC150.
"Business Promo" means there should be insurance for this very thing.

If you don't want him to cover the whole cost of the HMC150 for the friend reason, then get an estimate to repair the DVX100 and have him put that much towards a 150 or you put that much towards it, whichever you think is best.

Or have him put the cost of a DVX towards an HMC150 and you pick up the rest.

But if you are working for someone on a real business thing, you should be out $0 either way. That's the cost of doing business and there should be insurance. Which it sounds like their isn't so, that means there should be no problem letting him go into his pocket for a new camera.

thanks for the advice. gonna see what i can do about splitting the price between us like jds said. ill post what happens when i talk to him again.

got my fingers crossed for just getting that hmc..
