GH5 How are you finding the GH5's colour post firmware 2.0?

I just picked up a GH5 so I'm still a noob with it.

But I was wondering what everyone's feelings of the GH5's colour at this point, esp post FW 2.0?

I say post 2.0 as I tested the HLG mode a little - with the 6k 4:3 Anamorphic as I actually like 4:3 video - and the colours seemed a bit more pleasing in HLG than the other regular modes.

HLG seems, and this is to my untrained eye, not to have the same green boost and slightly yellowy skin tones that the regular modes, and most mirrorless cameras, seem to have.

What do you guys think?

I don't use HLG, instead I prefer the new 2.0 anamorphic option, 10 bit 4992x 3744 using V-Log L with 200Mbps HEVC.
The colors in this mode look marvelous!

Perchance, do you use FCPX? Others have noted it handles HGL in a different manner, changing the color in a way many people find very pleasing (less green/yellow.)

I've been quite impressed how well the free Logarist ( logarist.com ) color system handles both GH4 and GH5 color. The first thing I noticed was that it got rid of the horrible Panasonic yellow-greens that most NLE systems produced, which was so surprising to me when I first saw it.

Otherwise, I noticed that my GH5 was producing better color than my GH4 the first time I had to shoot under crappy fluorescent lights, the new 10-bit 4:2:2 formats made it so much easier to make corrections than the GH4 8-bit 4:2:0 footage.

Logarist doesn't really 100% support the GH5 yet. Due to the slight color differences between the GH4 and GH5 Logarist would need an update to compensate since the GH4 lut is really optimized for the GH4. The results may not be 100% accurate.

In a private email a few weeks ago, Jacob mentioned that he plans on picking up a GH5 to do proper tests and create new LUTs for the GH5 in the near future. ( I would be more than happy to pay for his GH5 LUTs because his system has produced the best color I've seen from my GH4 camera, and it would be very handy to have the same level of color performance from my GH5. )

Can you guys get decent playback while using logarist in Premiere or do you only use it in Davinci? I just tried it in Premiere, and my 10 bit 4k files do not play back in realtime, while they do just fine without the logarist plugin being instantiated.

I'm using Vegas Pro 15 and not having any problem with my 4K 400 Mbps footage. My video card is a few years old, so I have to transcode my 150 Mbps footage to a less compressed format for playback, where I think if I had something more state of the art they would play fine.

I have a fair bit of issue with Premiere only on normal 10 bit 4K footage from the GH5. It plays back okay after it gets started but the initial burst is hit and miss. And if I watch long enough it bogs a bit, seems to be a bottleneck in my CPU. I'm using a i7 6700K, shows on playback it's pegged and at 100%.

That's as fast as the plugin is. You probably can't achieve real-time 4k playback, depending on your processor speed. I suggest reducing the playback resolution, disabling effects when you don't need them, and doing your color correction last. It's faster in Resolve because of Resolve's built-in GPU acceleration.
