How about Avid liquid edition?

I'm on the search for a new nle for my DVX. How about the new Avid Liquid Edition? I already have pinnacle studio 9, so upgradig to liquid will be a rather cheap affair (300$), compaired to sony vegas. What do you guys think is the best?

Thanks in advance:)

If you want to edit in 24p, Liquid is not your best choice. It will not remove pulldown on its own -- you'll have to use other software for that.

Of course, in PAL land, that might not be an issue.

In PAL land, you shoot in 25p. Of course I want to use 25p, anything else would be a betrayal to the DVX.

Still, is it better to use Vegas despite the extra cost?

Does anyone know anything about editing DVX footage in liquid edition?

Well, I used Edition for a long time before I switched to Vegas . . . loved the background rendering, the GPU support, the clip-based 2D and 3D animation effects. Authoring DVDs straight from the timeline is useful, too. Liquid also has a second-to-none set of color-correction tools.

But overall, I like Vegas a lot better for its flexibility, its completely customizable interface, its ability to run on anything, its Dolby Digital 5.1 encoder and audio tools, and of course its unparalleled support for 24p.

As for editing "DVX footage," well, unless you're talking about specific advantages of 24p, DV is DV, whatever camera it came out of, for editing purposes. Identical resolution, compression, colorspace . . .

I use and love Liquid Edition. Especially love the "anything goes" drag and drop feather to the timeline and virtually any format. Liquid's the berries and all kinds of Deka titling features, PiP's, audio/video time warp, and . . well, too much to list. Keep in mind Pinnacle didn't develop it, therefore, it's more reliable. Was developed by FAST.

Thank you for answering! :)

In studio 9 a flickering, or vertical stripes, occurs when shooting in 25p mode. I have to be absolutely sure this doesn't happen in liquid edition.

How about transforming 25p into 50i or vice versa in liquid and vegas?

I've used Liquid for quite a while now and recently purchased version 6. I use it with my DVX (in PAL-land) and it works like a charm. I've only used 25p so far.

I don't think you can truly transform 25p into 50i, but there are loads of options in exporting in Liquid. Including the choice of interlaced/de-interlaced etc.

Basically, with Liquid 7 you can't go wrong. Especially when it's a bargain like this. Have fun with it!

Thanks again!

What are the main differences between vegas and liquid? Why does most people here use vegas or adobe premiere, instead of liquid?

I would also endorse Liquid I've been using it since version 4.5 (switched from FCP-Mac) I don't ever do a filmout, because I cant afford one, so I'm always Shooting 24p standard and delivering in NTSC DVD/ avi's. The Instant save and background rendering are the bees knees. I just finished a 90 minute feature - no major hiccups. It gets the job done and in a timely manner.
