the counter on my HVX says 562 hours of operation. That doesnt seem possible. My entire film is backed up on 50 hours worth of tape.

what would account for the other 500+ hours?
 
so is this the number I use when people inquire about the operation hours? or is there a way to know exact "recording" hours....
 
Not that I'm aware of, you'll have to say it has 562 hours on it. I guess Panasonic thought it would be better to show the time on the ccd's instead of the recording time. I'd like to see both in a future version of the cam.
 
Future versions will likely not have tape transport mechanisms. So, once the electronics are on, they are on whether you are recording or not. Even on the 200, the tape head is spinning even in standby, so imo, Panasonic's logic makes sense.
