Hour Odometer / How to read it on dvx100b

I just got a dvx100b was told there were 5 hours on it but when I looked at the meter it said 55. Does the meter calibrate in tenths or is it in full hours. Thank you
 
It is in full hours. While 55hrs isn't alot, it's not 5hrs either, you might want to see if you can clear that up.
 
The hour meter calculates the time that the tape heads are active. So yes it does record playback. It also keeps running if you just leave the camera on.
