Hour meter wrong

Hi there,

I got my DVX100BE last Friday. Playing around with since then.

Now, the very first tape is still in. It says I recorded 00:47:59:12 so far.
The hourmeter says 00002H which I assume means 2 hours.
The hourmeter was at 00000H when I got the cam, it was brand new and in it's original package.

Any ideas why the hour meter is wrong? Maybe beacause I shot a lot of short scenes, so I did a lot of "record-start / stop / record-start / stop" Did that stress the cam like it would've been running for 2 hours?

Any help on this would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Oli

Yes, I just found the same info a minute ago.
The hourmeter seems to be a "powered-on" meter,
not a "recording-to-tape" meter.

Strange behaviour in my eyes but oh well...

thanks for your help.

regards,
Oli

does the hour meter stop when the "sleep mode" (or whatever its called-when the tape mech down) kicks in?

I think so, because I'm 99% positive that my cam was powered on for more than just 2 hours.

Oli.S,

Yes, the hour meter runs only when the tape is up against the heads. You may not be recording at the time, but there is still tape making contact with the heads. That is why you have the two hours even thought your tape is only at forty seven min.

The best way to keep from racking up hours on your heads is to turn you SAVE mode to on. One thing to keep in mind is that when ever the tape is backed away from the heads in save mode, it takes a few seconds to get it to start again.

Enjoy your new camera!

Or, IF you're doing long setups, you can remove the tape. (watch for timecode breaks if that's a concern)
