How does one remove the hotshoe's on the handle of the FS700 ?

Going to be making a DIY support for my 70-200mm F2.8 lens following a tutorial by gene_can_sing

You have to remove the little silver plate, then there's a set of screws underneath. The silver plate is easy to remove. It's just clicked in there and you can use your thumb and it slides right off with minimal force. You will need a jewelry screw driver as the bolts are very small.

Thanks for the reply gene.

Having a hard time now sourcing all the bolts and bits. Wish I could just buy it all from one place.

Having said all that, I let the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron VC hang loose off the mount and I didn't see any flex etc. Do you or anyone else know the maximum weight the E-mount can handle?

I would just say "reasonable weight." If someone walking by bumps into a long lens, it might be bad. Some company (fotodiox?) has a way to strengthen the mount. It's mentioned in this thread somewhere.

I think Jim is right - reasonable weight. I think with most lenses you're fine, but the 70-200 f2.8 is a large and heavy lens and I just would not risk damaging your camera.

I will say that the little bolt screw thing that I use for the 70-200 is great. It's perfect for run and gun as it's so quick to set up the heavy 70-200 f2.8. I didn't use the lens much before because it was so inconvenient, but with the bolt / screw thing I use it all the time now.

You can get the long bolt and long spacer from McMaster.com and the metal strip from Home Depot.

good luck,

Gene

Thanks for the help.

Yes I can tell even though it looks fine on the mount, a simple knock can certainly damage it. Holding it hand held will become very exhausting really quickly so your solution was genius in my opinion as I can throw it on to my manfrotto monopod. Already shifted the hotshoe to the back, just waiting for the bits to arrive.
