Hot shoe extender option

Im about a week away from my seemingly imminent purchase of the HMC40.
Needing to start out on the cheap and slowly build my peripheral collection, I decided to begin with the Rodes videomic and an as of yet undetermined brand of lighting. Both of these items are self powered and not reliant on the cameras power source.

As I want them both to sit on the camera, Im thinking a hot shoe extender would be my preferred option.

So my question is whether a hot shoe extender would short out the hot shoe on the HMC40? Would I need a hot to cold adapter like with some sonys?

Here is an idea of what I am speaking of:

The Hot Shoe Extension allows you to fit multiple attachments to your single hot shoe on your camera/camcorder. The Hot shoe Extension allows you to rotate the attachment 360° around the shoe fixture on the camera. The length of the bar is 100mm (4.00") and weighs 50g (1.7oz) and is suitable for male flash shoe accessories.
Anyone know for certain? Or hypothesize?
Thank you!
