Just kidding ... heh heh heh ... sorry!

This is a music video for an amazingly talented hardcore band from New Jersey. I think it's pretty tight, but could use some objective eyes and feedback.

(If you don't like the music, that's cool ... just comment on the video, please.)

Thanks. rock!

Toaster,

How many cameras did you have? How many takes did you do? Where the heck was this filmed at (no headroom)?

I thought it started off REALLY strong and then ran out of gas a bit towards the end. Maybe that was because the tune dies out at length in the end too, so that may have posed a challenge. I was waiting for that music to kick back in, and knock it out, just never happened. Of course not your fault though. Overall you did a solid job.

I liked the "visual rumble" style throughout, matched the song very well, great idea there. You worked some good shots of the audience in too, would have liked to see a few more, I think you reused one? Could be wrong there. Other suggestions: maybe some tighter shots on the drums getting destroyed or someone blasting a guitar, just a bit more variety/coverage on the shots. But not a big deal, especially if you had just one cam.

Oh yeah, what's the name of the band dood?

I agree with Lyons. Overlal this was pretty solid. The mood and pace fit well within your edit. I'd be interested to see perhaps some different looks color correction wise; but I have no complaints as you did a really nice job.

(Must not comment on band as he said not to....)

**** that music sucks. What starts off a some cool hard core music get's ruined by 2 assholes screaming. Now thats talent.

Sorry. Couldnt help it. I love music too much to let it sneak by.

i think it's pretty cool..... the music? well ok, I'll respect your wish and not comment on that crap that I wouldn't wipe my ass with....

I like your work though.

It looked good, got a bit bored in the end though because music videos aren't that fun to watch when you have the music turned all the way off. Which is what this song forced me to do. But the video, like you said was pretty tight. I agree w/ John that it might have been good w/ some different ccing. Maybe make it look a bit dirtier or something (the whole basement feeling). I dunno. Good job.

I would like to comment, but I started having a panic attack after about 30 seconds.

Hey, wont you play
another "somebody's done somebody wrong" song,
And make me feel at home,
While I miss my baby......

(Hell, I had to do something to restore balance to my universe!)

I like the music but the phucken lyrics gotsta GO! I can't stand listening to **** that I can't understand. You have no idea how it phucken annoys me. I don't mind the music at all. The video wasn't bad nor was it good. It was like everyother music video. .... Uh, where's the hot girls at?

Toaster,

LOVED Shai Hulud, and have loved this band since their birth from Hulud's proverbial "ashes". Their music is sick, and you do them justice in the video. It's exceptionally strong for a video solely of live performance footage. Lots of intense cuts and I was digging the shutter speed jitteriness.

Total Tangent:
I'm actually friends with the heavyset singer, Eric. He went to U. of Hartford and was roomates with my best friend. Amazingly talented musician, especially on the guitar. You should check out his other band Shallow Water Grave, for which he writes all the music.

Me and Eric being stupid:

TOASTER.

**** they are awesome.....not feeling the fade out at the end though.....fade outs in hardcore seem a little weird to me....dude; is this off the split with UK's Send more paramedics? because I just shot them a video for NOTHING TASTES LIKE THIS which is on a split with zombie apocalypse....

I like the video, I think you needed a crazier audience.....and a lot more things blowing up.

I didnt realise this was the rebirth of shai hulud? whats the line up?

P.S you can find the video I shot for send more paramedics at www.milkyotech.com, or click the link at the bottom of this post.

I know I said "fade outs in hardcore seem weird" but the only reason the track fades out in SMP nothing tastes like this is because I made it into DIAGETIC (or however you spell it) sound.

I dont know why I dont like fade outs? maybe I do, I think the other day I was listening to a band who fade out EVERY TRACK and I was like "what a cop out"

I think the end of that track is good actually.

ok Ill shut up now.

Hey thanks guys ...

A little more info might go a long way. This an extract from a benefit show that was held last month. Hence the strange non-club-like vunue. The full benefit is being put together on a dvd.

Lyon - I had three cameras cranking throughout.
John - I'm tellin ya, your kids will be coming home with this soon!!!
Kevin - Word. Stay tuned bro.
Adam - Yo that's cool man. We should talk...hit me with an email. I understand the split has been delayed in the uk?

I'll be firming up the vid this week and the band will probably post the vid next week. I have added a bit of noise to the vid, pulled the color out and pumped up the yellows. Compressed, you don't get a feel for the graininess of the noise.

As far as cc suggestions, what specifically do you see? I'm not a fan of mocking dirty film look. But maybe something like Natress bleach?

Additional thoughts definitely welcomed.

Rock.

Cool man ... will hit ya with an email tonight.

The fade out of the song *is* a bit unusual for HC, and the song changes dynamic quite a bit ... so I though the natural way to go would be with fades/dissolves at the end. Kinda metallica-esque. Overall the song kinda feels like a race car taking off from the starting line, eventually reaching hyper speed, then going into overdrive...kinda mellows at a high speed.

Hell yea! Good stuff.

Unfortunately I never got to see Grisham of T.S.O.L. Live. But I did see the Joe Wood incarnation twice in concert; that was cool. Once was with GNR at SDSU with like 400 people. Bitchen show.

Hey man, that was cool. I liked the vid and the music.

The one thing I would suggest is to ditch that Sepia look you got going and go for a more saturated color look. Eff that ***** up!

i think it would be alot tighter if the edits fell on the beats more, and followed the rhythm of the song :slow when theres a breakdown and sped up with the builds.

having played in a hc band....those guys vocals suck. thats not your fault though.

and it could use a spot of color...like really bring up one color selectively, make it pop against the bw feel
