Hot audio without being in the red?

I mean does just being plugged into the MM-1 clean up noise? For example, there's a difference in quality of the audio if I'm plugged directly into the camera or if I'm using the MM-1 preamp even when gain is set to 0dB on the preamp. It's like it's working even when no gain is applied.
 
Even with 0dB applied within the preamp, the audio still is much better...interesting.
 
Well you are comming in mic level and going out line so you have drastically reduced the cameras preamp noise.
 
Not to be rude or anything but that's not even sound 101, maybe you should dig into a book or two. Save you some time and a lot of times questions like this won't even get answered because it gets into the "let me Google that for you" zone.
