Hostel II

hes lucky but hes making horror nothing more that what i could get striaght to dvd.

Yet, he's got people throwing big money at him to make it, and he's got scores of people lining up to see it. Once again, we should all be so lucky.

Did i see the same Hostel you guys saw?
Cuz the one i saw was HORRIBLE.
That movie sucked so bad.
rarely does a movie piss me off, but this one did.
I never saw the original because i saw this first and it turned me off so bad.

the way I heard the story goes, is that eli made cabin fever and at the time of post porduction he had alraedy ran out of money so somehow someone with a big heart came along and gave him money and finally he sent it to festivals and got it distributed, now I dont think I stand alone when I say that cabin fever is one of the worst movies ever made, I cannt imagine who would give eli more than a mil to finish that movie, now dont get me wrong eli is very lucky to have tarantino backing him up like that, tarantino goes to show that his style is dead he cant let go of pulp fiction that is why he keeps coming back to it every chance he gets, but to sum it up hostel 1 was entertaining, hostel 2 is pure garbage and they should of given me that production money to me, I betcha I would of made something better
just my .00002 cents !!

When an artists talent lies solely in dismantling a body in every which way possible, and slapping tits in every scene then i don't see how you can conceivably call it art. I think Horror as a genre is becoming diluted with every "new" movie produced and every ticket purchased. When horror was originally a tool for an author to manifest physically a social problem with the effect of striking fear of that problem in to the viewer, we have severed all relevant meaning and left the limbs and the pools of blood. My point is when Eli Roth goes to a table to write a script he thinks of different ways to destroy a body and scribbles it down with nothing in particular to actually say. To fill in all his shitty dialogue he adds tits in the background so that if you get bored enough you have something to do (But if any of us wanted to see that in the first place, there's a magical land called the internet that satisfies all your deviant needs!) I think all of us can do what Eli Roth does on our worst days.

They say you can judge a society by the art it produces, how sad it would be if we were judged by an Eli Roth film

By the way this is my first post!

I garantee that most of the people here bashing Eli Roth could not write, direct and produce as good a film if they had the same financial backing, so stop acting like they're poorly made films like the crap Ed Wood made.

I have not seen many good horror films made from the 90s onward that are any better than Roth's Cabin Fever and Hostel films...Any suggestions?

I am a horror fan, so I am always looking for old horror movies that are really violent. And I think others do the same. Now all of a sudden Roth comes along and sets out to make the most violent film of all time, and people are bashing him, acting as if they don't love the extreme violence of old horror films from the 70's and 80's.

"I think all of us can do what Eli Roth does on our worst days."

Oh really? Stop talking out of your ass. I don't think anyone has the credentials to simply say that Roth's films are **** until they actually make a better film. KKatran, post a link to a film you made on your very "best day" and we'll compare it to Roth's films.

before someone responds I'd better take that back. I haven't seen Cabin fever, nor Hostel 2, just Hostel one. One of the worst films I've ever seen in my life on every single possible level. That is the only film of Roth's I can claim to be shi* Sorry.

So, here's my story on Eli Roth...

I watch Cabin Fever about 2-3 years ago and really, really hated it. It seemed very corny and pointless. There were some parts that really came out of nowhere, some parts that were pretty funny, but mostly just blood for blood's sake.

Then about a year ago I saw an interview that he did for Lloyd Kaufman (the Troma guy) about the making of Cabin Fever and I absolutely fell in love with the guy's attitude towards independent filmmaking and his passion for horror movies. Even though I hated the movie, I went out and bought Cabin Fever, just to listen to the audio commentaries to learn more from this guy who went through hell to get his movie made because he believed in it.

He didn't have any money handed to him, and several financiers backed out in the middle of production, the guild's shut him down, all sorts of things happened that made Cabin Fever a war to get made. I really admire Roth's dedication to what he does. Many don't like what he does, but he is very good at what he does, and that is slap sticky, corny and bloody horror. That's what he sets out to make, and I think he does a damn good job at it.

Because of my newfound respect for him, I decided to check out Hostel when it was in theaters and I loved it, I was laughing really hard, which is what I feel it was made to make me do. And I'm sorry, but he is saying something in the first Hostel: it starts out with these guys making fun of and using the girls like they are objects, hookers, things to do stuff to for money, and guess what, it gets turned back around on them and they become the hookers. It's simple, but simple works for horror, look at Romero's movies.

That being said, I was disappointed in Hostel II because I felt it was a rehashing of the first one. I think he could of gone farther and more disturbing with taking advantage of it being females this time and ultimately I just wanted to see more.

I'm not defending his craftsmanship, because that is totally subjective, but I do think that something has to be said for him wanting to do one thing and only one thing in the world, and the fact that he goes out and does it the best he can. Eli Roth may not be the greatest filmmaker on the planet, but he really waves the flag for independent movie making, and I admire him for it.

Independent movies are usually, by definition, not mainstream, so everyone's not going to like them, they are not going to appeal to the masses. But Eli Roth had the balls to take his script for Cabin Fever, a movie with a kid named Pancakes that does karate, a joke using the "N" word, a bunch of kids getting a skin disease and rotting, killing or getting blown away, a ran over dear that is still kicking through the windshield, and a deputy sheriff that doesn't notice a truck or boy covered in blood because he just wants to party, to many people to ask them for their money to make the movie. And where did it get him? Far enough so that you and me are spending time talking and writing about him instead of spending that time trying to get there ourselves.

look i live in the state where he made cabin fever and i know a bunch of people who work on it. and trust me thier stories about him are more valuable.

also like i said i know the producers of cabin fever and i got something with them as we speak so things are working my way, they didn't like eli from what they told me either. so yeah.

To that guy...

To that guy...

Hahaha wow didn't think you could be so emotionally invested into the guy. Listen, if you like bodies being ****ed up for an hour and a half with no prevailing message or reason as to why it's happening then thats absolutely fine with me. I just think that **** is neither artistic nor should it receive a morsel of the praise he gets. I like George A. Romero's stuff (Not so much the new one) because at least people were eating eachother in a fairly reasonable context. Romero had a reason, Roth doesn't. I also think that if you watch hostel, all it was was special effects and makeup and closeups in dark dirty cells of people screaming....and breasts, And yah i think if I had that money i could make a better movie. And turning around and saying "What have YOU done?" isn't actually a good argument because whats in discussion is Eli Roth, not me. I said i could do it if i had that kinda money and if you want to give me a try I'd be more than happy to step up :), with your money.

Oh yah...Im 19 and Roth is 36 so he's almost lived on this Earth twice as long as i have. Ask me in 17 years if ive made a ****-stain comparable to Hostel (once again...MY OPINION).

I didn't say the guy didn't work hard to get to where he is. Alot of people can work hard and end up making shitty art. See ----------->Ben Afflek, -------->Puff Daddy------->The Hansons.

just watched this on dvd...pretty weak. felt like a short film that went on for too long. just when it started getting good it just ended out of nowhere. i'm surprised Tarintino plastered his name all over this and produced it (well it did do good numbers last year but still).

i agree with what somebody said up top....quentin is losing his touch.
