Horizontal Resolution.

Anyone know precisely how many lines of horizontal resolution are recorded on the DVX100A? I believe it's about 500 in the DVX100, but I can't find anything that mentions the number in the 100A literature.

Re: Horizontal Resolution.

Does that mean that the A has higher resolution than the 100? or does the 100 record 540 as well?

Re: Horizontal Resolution.

Both cameras record 540 lines. The "A" is supposed to have a slightly better prism for less chromatic aberration but I haven't seen any side-by-side pictures that demonstrate any difference, and Adam Wilt's review didn't mention anything about the picture being significantly better in any way on the "A".

Re: Horizontal Resolution.

Nice to know...

So basically, it's probable that you could do a two camera shoot, with one DVX100 and one DVX100A, and you wouldn't notice the difference (assuming you weren't using gain on the A model)

Re: Horizontal Resolution.

You're going to need to ask someone who's done the side-by-side testing for a definitive answer on that. I've used a 100 for a year now, and played extensively with the 100A, and couldn't tell much difference picture-wise. Adam Wilt's review showed a bit of extended latitude for the "A". I'd say that it's a reasonably safe bet that a DVX100 will intercut with a DVX100A better than any other camera would, but it probably won't be identical.

Re: Horizontal Resolution.

Then I guess my question goes out to everyone...

Has anyone tested both cameras side-by-side?

Re: Horizontal Resolution.

I haven't seen anything that says 540 lines of horizontal resolution. This may not be the most scientific method, but if you go to google and do a search for dvx100 and horizontal resolution, you get a couple of different numbers. How do we know what the real number is?
