Horizontal grain

I got my DVX a couple days ago. I'm still just shooting tests and trying to figure everything out. In shooting low light I noticed a distinct horizontal quality to the grain of the video, only really visible in particularly grainy shots. It's also much more noticeable on the camera lcd screen than on my monitor. It's like the grain is composed of horizontal bars. I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this, and if so, is it a question of settings?

Here's a grab of the bars. I jacked the contrast way up in post to make it more visible. Like I said before, it's much more pronounced on the camera lcd. Because of the blockyness of the darkest areas, I'm guessing that it's just an artifact of the DV compression.
