horizontal glitch/ripple

Please help me troubleshoot an issue that has been plagueing me for awhile. I have a horizontal glitch or ripple that appears on any shots with movement. Not only when the camera moves, but when there is movement within the frame (ex. static shot of drummer hitting a cymbal). It doesn't appear on the camera original.

It occurred to me that it might be caused by interference, so I installed a ferrite core on my firewire cable and also on the AC adaptor and recaptured my footage. Still there. After doing a test export and encoding in Sorenson Squeeze v4.0, I noticed that it also appears on the client's logo that I zoomed full screen (only during the movement).

This problem has happened on both my laptop when I was editing on it and also on my desktop which was built last summer. This latest project has the most movement (a jazz band video) and after mpeg 2 encoding, it actually has banding instead of "just" rippling.

DVX 100a camera, 30i.
AXP 5.5.2
Mojo SDI
Duo Intel Pentium D 3.20 GHz CPUs
2 gigs RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500

Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,

Sorry if I'm overstating the obvious here but have you viewed the footage on a video monitor? It sounds like interlaced video viewed on progressive displays (laptop & desktop).

That's actually what I'm wondering too. I thought an example might help determine that exactly.

I encoded to DVD and watched it with my client on her TV which was painful. You can't see it within a paused frame.

Inverted field order?
Are you encoding lower field first? Avid, NTSC is LFF.

Posting your encoding settings might be helpful.

Thanks to all who responded. I went back and double checked my settings and the editing gremlin had unchecked the Avid Codec in the Export options and that was the problem. I just burned a DVD of the project and it looks great.

This sounds quite like a problem that I am having... are you still having it in playback, now that it's fixed in the export?

for some time now, i think i've had this same problem. i've tried turning the avid codec option on and off in export, and even messed with various other settings, but i repeatedly end up with poor results - black interlaced lines around the edges of my subjects.
