Horizontal Blue Stripes When Capturing or Nothing at All

Today when I plugged in my DVX to capture a very strange and alarming thing happened. It wouldn't play back the tape. Just a blue screen and where the time code should be was --- -- ---- --:--:--. I tried it on about 4 tapes with the same result. Finally on the fifth tape it eventually started to play but with big blue horizontal bars across it. My camera was working fine yesterday. It has had the blue horizontal bars before once a few weeks ago for a very short period of time but then worked again when I took the tape out and put it back in. What exactly is my problem? I appreciate the help.
 
I thought that might be a problem with the heads just from what I've seen doing some research online. So should I buy one of these Mini DV Head Cleaners and if so does it matter which brand I get?
