horizontal bars in recording

Hi,
I recently was on a shoot during a cold morning and my DVX100B had a recording error. It recorded big horizontal bars across the screen where every other one was the video being shot, and the others were blank. I set it back in the vechicle to let it warm up some and later it recorded fine..for a while. It did the same thing again later that day. It also would drop out and then record again. THe camera was bought new about 10 months ago and has been treated gently. I was also shooting simultaneasly with AG DVC60s that same day and they performed flawlessly as always even with one of them being outside of a moving vehicle in the cold, hard blowing interstate wind.

Is the DVX not so hot at recording in these conditions, do I possibly have a head problem, or what suggestions do you have? If I recall, it has about 100 hrs on it, and I've never serviced it.
Thanks for any advice/help. I am discouraged that I am having camera problems after spending the money on it.

Oops! I just looked and it actually has 27 hrs on it. Anyway, I ran a cleaning tape in it for about 6 seconds. Hopefully the problem will go away. Thank you.

If the record head was dirty while recording, the damage is burned-in, so to speak. If it's just the playback head, then that should clear it up.

Some heads just don't want to work in the cold. I have used a GL2 in the cold and started getting spotty results around 10 F. By 0 F without something to warm the camera it's basically a paperweight, forgetting to write half the video and all the timecode to tape.

If you have a lot of work to do in the cold, solid state is a much better option.

This is a sweet camera, with crappy playback heads. I guess the rule is to use a head cleaner about every 25 hours or so.....I use mine in humid conditions on the beach to film surfing and it seems to get dirty occasionally, I just use the cleaner and I am good to go!
