Hi, I am looking to make a short film about Mace Windu of the Jedi Council and was wondering about how much people are paid for the type of special effects they used in Episode one. With that being more than a decade old i would imagine those effects aren't AS hard to do today? I don't have much money but am looking to pay for talent. Please let me know how much 44-90 mins of CGI goes for, about how long it takes and any other questions or info you would like to send. Thanks!

44-90 mins of any CG work of any quality is going to really shock him. And since he doesn't even know 44-90 min of any film is not a short.............he better have a defib handy.

Lol. -thumbs up.

//""I don't have much money but am looking to pay for talent....." LOl.

Feature quality CGI is still like $1million a minute at least, or so published budgets would suggest. I've seen decent Fan film effects done on the cheap, but they are never as seamless as the real thing.

I don't know. So many people seem to lack taste and fail to notice quality that something really cheap and shoddy looking might be considered totally appropriate by said Craigslister.

Ha, I looked for the Craigslist thread recently. I hope you don't mind if I dump this one here? Idiot! (not you, dear OP) :)

What in the **blank** does this even mean?
"I promise the out come from this music video will be payment enough."

Or, if you are looking to make the big bucks - like $100 - there is this. "Be responsible for every facet of production ..."

Seeking a film student or person with experience in film to serve as production
manager for a student short film. You will organize casting, crew, get makeup
artists, etc.

Be responsible for every facet of production under the supervision
of the producer and director. It's great for experience, exposure and an
addition to your resume. Pay is $100. If interested send resume to
thullofilms@ymail.com Put PM in the subject heading.

I am willing to talk to them on the phone a couple of times for $100. I wouldn't actually drive anywhere or do anything for that, but we could take meetings! :)

Nah, no prob unadog. There is gold on Craigslist, but there are a ton of piles of poo-poo too.

The trick is to shine a spotlight on the idiots, and grab the gold for yourself or your contacts. LOL, I send CL ads to a ton of people to try and get them work.

CL ads are hilarious. I saw an ad looking for some zombie VFX... They had pictures of one of the first Walking Dead episodes with the zombie that is cut in half and crawling on the ground. They want that shot and 3 others duplicated for $300 total. Their shots had no blue screened legs, shakey footage, no clean plate, wanted 3d organs and entrails added and everything, and it had to be photo-real.

I ended up giving him a step by step breakdown of hours it would take, including 3d tracking of both the actor and environment, generating a clean plate, all the 3d models and render passes needed, compositing, etc.... Ended up being over 100 hours of work to get it photo-real (which is still on the low end).

I'm pretty sure he scrapped those shots.

Erik, can you take my vague story idea and turn it into the next Avatar... for payment of $500 in Best Buy gift cards? :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

Similar level of delusion, just posted today.

Animation Artist needed ASAP - short film (Austin/Georgetown areas) said:
The project will be an animated short film that I will write the screen play to
and illustrate character and scenery ideas that I will then need you to perfect (as my drawings are inadequate to use for the final product).
The short film will be relatively silent.

I am hoping to receive feedback on this ad from either
A) Students in college for Animation (or the equivalent major) that may be able to benefit from this project as a sort of thesis and would not mind such a commitment then, or
B) somebody who would be accepting of the commitment and doing the gig for little or no pay (as I do not have much of a budget).

The project has quite a lengthy window of "work-time" so it wouldn't be too rushed, and I would be able to meet with you as frequent as necessary.

A free copy of the final product and any progress recordings will be available to you if you wish, and you will, of course, be recognized graciously in the credits.

Please email me ASAP if you are well fitted for such a task and interested!

I'd like the guy to go all the way through the production of the Star Wars film just o he can have Lucasfilm stomp down on him the moment he tried to show it to anyone.

My fave CL ads are the ones that offer no pay, no food and no expenses, yet demand an extensive resume, reel and often times an audition piece. Really.

Here's one I just saw.

Production Assistant needed for TV commercial on Monday 9/10, and Tuesday 9/11. Help Producer ensure shoot is running smoothly. Experience with studio or field shoots is necessary. Hours: 6A-10A. $50/day. Reliable transportation is required. Call Chip 407-325-2199.

You mean I can wake my ass up and drive to your set at 5 AM to serve your cast and crew breakfast and coffee for $12.50 an hour? Where do I sign up?!

We get the same thing here in Aus - I wont out anyone for trying but:

Director of Photography
Working closely with the Director, the DoP will need to create a visual array of beauty and work effectively with the Director. Experience is essential and showreel must be provided. No Pay.

Not sure about anyone else, but when I see these it makes me giddy with excitement that they'll let me make their product look great, I get to work countless hours on that. And all for the reward of nothing.

Sign me up!

I don't bother going to the site I quoted above from anymore, shame because I did pull a few good jobs from it when it was "newish".
