hooking up the HDlink

Ban Me Please!
Hey everybody, this post may belong in hardware, but I'm not sure. I figured editors will no best.

I recently inherited a FCP system and need to learn how to use it, which I've been aching to do. I'm going to be buying the HVX and trying to learn as I learn HD, so my question is how does the HDlink hook into my G5? I'm still a bit confused about all the different cable types. I want to hook up a small Dell HD LCD for monitoring, but can't find a hook-up diagram on the Black Magic site.

Sorry, if I repeat myself...repeat myself. :)

thanks,

Jason

You'll need a hardware video card with SDI outs in your mac, (I use a Kona2 card with breakout box). From this card's outputs (SDI), you run them to the HDLink, and plug the monitor into the HDLink. This gives you a true HD monitoring source from the SDI outputs.

Thanks Kai, that's the missing link for me. I was a bit confused in closeups of the product showing the SDI connectors. that helps me out.

Best,

Jason

Kai, one more question if you don't mind. I just looked at the prices and holy-cow. I've got so much to outlay right now that seems steep for my needs right now. What do you think would be the most affordable way to get HD monitoring out of the G5? I don't really think I need that much card, since I probably won't be doing much deck connecting.

thanks again
