hooking my camcorder up to my computer **HELP**

i have a sony hc32 minidv piece of ****, i know its a lil off topic for this website, but u guys are the only camcorder site i know that could help.. im trying to hook my camcorder up to my computer.. now i dont know if the cam came with the wires needed.. its saying something about a i.Link wire never... im lost, my dad said all i would need to do is hook it up to my USB 2.0.. so i took the usb wire i have that i use for all my stuff like m3p, psp, camera, and it wont work.. i need somethin like a dv wire that can hook up to my usb.. sorry if im confusing, i know all u are minidv users, how the hell do you do it!

according to my experience, the only/best way to capture images in your computer is a firewire connection, not usb. The video cam should have a connection (4 points) and your computer too (8 points). there also should be a software for capturing images from your camera, if not, any editing program should be able to recognize your sony. Patience.
 
In other words, you need a Firewire card on your computer if you don't have one. You also need a 6-pin (computer side) to 4-pin (camera side) firewire cable. This is standard stuff which you can find and any Best Buy or some other local computer retail store.

And as madrid stated, you obviously need some software to capture the footage. Any thoughts on that?
