This is a 2 part system.

There is a plastic small hood moulded to the Odyssey, that is mounted with 4 screws (optional thumbscrews for quick removal).
It covers top and sides on the Odyssey. I feel this is a very nice way to protect your screen and it also makes viewing in strong light much better. The Odyssey screen is pretty vulnerable both on the camera and when transporting, I think this is a nice permanent protector. But it can easily be removed.

Then there is a plastic reinforced Velvet hood that velcroes to the small hood. It splits open easily to make the touch screen easy to use. If you use a tablet stylus you don't need to pop the bottom of this hood open. You can put your face right up to the hood and squeeze it to shape it so there is very little outside light let in, great for critical focus.

We are just putting this up on our WEBstore for ordering, here is the link:

The price is $100.00 for the small protector hood and $50.00 Velvet addition.

We've been working with the Odyssey7Q for a few months now. It's my go to monitor for all of our indoor productions. The lack of good hood option and high-gloss OLED screen forced us to go to other monitors for outdoor productions. Olof has been working on a Hood and was good enough to FastTrak a prototype to us for our beachside production in South Beach Miami. This is the best system we've ever used for any Field monitor. First of all, there are no generic hoods that will work with this monitor because of the SSD slots. Secondly, this monitor severely needs protection having no bezel surrounding the glass front. That is all we were expecting, a 2in to 3in 3 sided hood which for our beach use still is challeging with such bright conditions. The added hood extension really makes the hood system as useable outside as a reference monitor in a studio controlled light situation. The Velcro flaps at the bottom can be barely connected and the hood almost molds to the shape of your face which makes it like an EVF. The main plastic hood we keep permanently attached to protect the screen and use as an additional leverage to engauge and disengaged what is still after about 50 Recording sessions tight SSD slots. Thumbs up Olof for a much need addition to the 7Q.

Product looks great olof! Excellent design. On the website, the hood is listed as 1.5 lbs. Is this the actual weight or the shipping weight? I'm hoping it's the shipping weight as I can't imagine the plastic/screws weighing that much! Also, do the optional thumbscrews come with the hood attachment?

James, that is the shipping weight. The actual weight is 5oz for the plastic and screws part, and the fabric extension is 3oz.

James, we decided not to include thumb screws because our beta testers (including me) found that the small plastic hood really should be on the Odyssey full time. I had even thought about making slots instead of holes for the screws so the thumb screws could stay on the Odyssey permanently so you don't loose them. The small hood really protects the glass from getting scratched even just slipping it into a Pelican case. But everyone agrees that the hood should stay on.

If you would like the thumb screws we can include them and we can turn the holes into slots as well, just make a note on the order form requesting this. Or you can order by phone or email ( info@westsideav.com )and request it then.
