Honda Generators...

I've got a 3000. It is very quiet *for a generator*, but if you were trying to do sync sound work, well, you'd still have to make sure it was a long way away, behind a building or a truck or something. But yes, they're excellent.

Barry - Is it true that you can't use the twistlock plug and the standard edison plugs at the same time? The dealer I bought it from told me that would damage the unit. I haven't read this anywhere in the manual however. I'm thinking he meant more about overloading the genny rather than just simply the act of using two plug types at the same time?

I've only used the Edison plugs so far; the twistlock is reserved for when I have to use the generator to power my house during a hurricane...

Haven't heard about that restriction before though...

I own and use the Honda 2000 and I love it. It works perfectly and with a long enough extension cord, I can usually keep the noise to an acceptable level for great sound recording.

The generators we've been discussing are quiet, with highly clean inverter power. They're also expensive. What you linked to is more of a general construction-type generator -- lots of power cheap, but noisy and not necessarily clean power. A totally different type of animal.

ya figured so, but hey cheap isn't always bad look at the HVX(: But I guess in this case we're not so lucky. thanks for the clarity Barry, oh hey I was just in NC shooting in Black MT....what a beautiful state:thumbsup:

Fantastic. If I had it to do over again, that's probably the way I'd go too, but it is a bit of a chunk of change... Nice thing about the Hondas is you can daisy-chain two of them together (at least the 1000, 2000, and 3000 -- don't know about the 6500) and double the total output.

I'm likin' the handles and wheels, my 3000 doesn't have those, I have to drag that 150-lb monster and putting it in the back of the truck is no fun at all. :)

Ya it's a beast! I got to build a small platform dolly for it. I once actually got it in the backseat of a sedan!

Not trying to speak for Barry, but on the 6500 it has 2 20a Edison and 2 30A twistlocks. I asked the tech about it while he was servicing the unit, so he pulled the demo out fired it up and started loading it down. He loaded all four plugs and the unit pulled 75amps without any trouble. Personally I wouldn't run it like that I figure if I'm getting 60A out of the two 30A plugs it'll do what I need.
