Homemade mini 35 grabs

Re: Homemade mini 35 grabs

Question here:
Aside from the footage looking FANTASTIC... How much noise does that 9 Volt motor make while filming? I could see that being a problem if you're on set, shooting a flik and the boom catches the hum of the motor or spinning of the CD on the audio track, no?

Re: Homemade mini 35 grabs

Yeah this is kind of a problem....When we first put the cd in there it was pretty quiet now it makes this weird noise. Its not very loud, with some foam inside, the level will go down significantly. I'm glad you guys liked it. I wish I could put this thing on our jib and shoot some stuff but we need to change the motors cause the nikkor lenses are heavy. Gonna shoot an interview tomorrow with this thing so will try to post some grabs of that.

Re: Homemade mini 35 grabs

after researching at several optical manufacturers i have found that a mirror/pentaprism with real ground glass and based or your other prices for parts should cost around $300 to make (no labor of course)and is extremly possible to make. in fact search the forums and some other sites and you will see several people are working on very nice and cleanly designed and built units for around $200-$300. $1000 for a frosty cd is a tad high.

god, please everyone, stop calling these things mini35's. its like calling every meat patty sandwich a bigmac. that a registered trademark hehe

Hey can you tell me a little more about the diopter you used? I'm actually still not sure what diopters are other than things that allow you focus on object extremely close to the camera. Is that right? Exactely what diopter did you use?
