Homemade dolly film.

the pics...you're right she ain't pretty, but I'm more interested in her performance. And the footage looked great.

I imaging your list is long but I'm anxious to hear your price as well.

Very nice work.

Perfect example of supply and demand. People keep coming up with these things, they need to go ahead and sell a few to the public and make a quick buck.

Everytime I see a DIY on these boards, I've wanted to sign up just to say "send me one! What's your price!?!"... this is what made me sign up finally.

Great footage, said it twice already, but can't wait to get my own ugly skater dolly.

Sorry I haven't replied until now, I had to go to me "real" job. (paramedic)

Okay,
I am gearing up to start making what I like to refer to as the "Trackless Dolly System Dolly" or TDSD for short.:cheesy:

Seriously, the pics are of one I cobbed together to see if I could. I wouldn't sell, loan or give it to anyone. But everyone is right, it works like a dream. So in about a week I will have new pictures of a model I will be willing to sell.
A couple of questions have come up in discussing this with some friends.
1. will people want one if it is made of wood? this is the easiest and least expensive material to use.
2. would plastic be better received?
Just to let everyone know, aluminum is not cheap. Despite years of recycling, it is still a couple of hundred in raw material for a dolly.

So, I will continue to answer inquires and formulate a very reasonable price, and have it for everyone to see by end of this week.

It's very crazy that you used Movie Maker to edit that. that was one of the best quality films i've seen in a long time! your dolly shots are extremely smooth. you better put a patend on that dolly or someone might steal the idea. your dolly is just a prototype, right? people woulnt really care if it was made off wood if they knew it runs that smoothly. the music in your film was nice too.

I would buy a wood dolly as long as it was quiet and sturdy.

awesome! iv'e never seen natural lighting like that before. you were filming in your house right? you must have a bright house cause that kinda lighting is a director's dream

Thank you, most of the western wall in my apartment is window. I shot in the early afternoon. It works well for me most of the time.

i would deffinetly love to buy one if you are making enough. get back to me when you know how much you will sell them for.

Hey,
Ok ... Wood, plastic, snot. I'll take one. I'll trade you 2 small dogs & the world's fattest cat. What do yea think ??

If not, I can start taking back bottles. Really, I'd love one. Let us know ... But me first !!

Wood or plastic is fine. I imagine wood is the cheapest but what ever is cost effective.

Yours was made of wood and the performance looked great. That is the biggest factor for me. If plasitic is 10 bucks cheaper but not as reliable then go with wood and vice-versa.

I imagine I speak for everyone when I say we want a cheap and useful tool. Aesthetics is secondary.

Anxious to see Ver.2 of the TDSD or whatever you called it.

I call it the future-dolly cause of your user name.

Ya sign me up too! Let's hear a price and I hope you have a lot of time on your hands will all these dollys to make...

anyone interested in a dolly can pm me. I'm ready to start taking orders now and will begin work on filling said orders this week. Turn around from payment to shipping should be around a week. Pictures of new model will be up on Thursday. I will probably not make too many of these as they are somewhat time consuming and I would like to get some shooting done with the one I made.:)
so if you want one, start signing up. The price? $500. Remember, the pictures of the prototype are not what the new ones look like. Or, you could spend 10x as much for one made in Germany.

I'm not trying to make a giant killing on each one. Most of the cost is for materials and each one is handmade so there is a time factor. I think I found a place where you can rent a PST skater. But I also figured the rental price adds up really quick.
Pictures of the new model soon.

okay, perhaps I am a little more impressed with this devise than I should be?
let me hear some numbers you guys would see as more reasonable.

It's low profile usage is so limited to surfaces like a counter top or kitchen table top. If you want any dolly shot other than worms eye view in the middle of a room (and only with a smooth floor), you still need a track dolly that can support a tripod. So $500.00 is a bit much.

I could see $150-$200. But I wouldn't spend more than $200 on it personally because of the limited use issue and because I already built a standard dolly. But thats me...
