Saw "Sky Captain" this weekend and thought "hmmm I wonder if I could do that at home?".

So I got out the green screen that I bought, but have never used, and did a test.

I also included the before clip of me in my kitchen looking ridiculous.( Hope the neighbors didnt notice. :) )

Anyway check it out.

Re: Home Made "Sky Captain"

ahaha, awesome man! dude, you have to make a little edit of that man! using that green screen and the interior of your house, and whatever wardrobe you can dig up.

i want to make one now!

yo!

yo!

Wow - this proves we are definitely entering a new phase in movie making :o

I agree - you have to make something - a little 1 min story or something - excellent stuff! :D

Re: Home Made "Sky Captain"

hey that was pretty cool :). what software did you use for the environment..was it a stock thing, or did you have to make it?

Re: Home Made "Sky Captain"

haha. thanks for all the comments guys.

The entire background was CG. All done in 3ds Max. Then composited in Vegas. I usually use After Effect for compositing, but I wanted to see what I could push with vegas 5, using it's masks, etc. It actually did a really good job. Vegas just gets better and better. I think I spent about 12 hours total on the CG and a couple of hours compositing.
Yeah maybe I will do a short "sky captain" spoof or something and post it up.

anyway thanks for the encouragement guys

You are the man! I cannot believe you did this in your house and Hollywood spent 100 Million on theirs! LMAO! That is great! I want more! More! :D

Re: Home Made "Sky Captain"

That was very cool arcburn ;D

Didn't someone post over in the film discussion that the Sky Captain creator essentially made the majority of his 'sets' on a couple of PC/Macs in his basement of his house?

Re: Home Made "Sky Captain"

As far as I know. They created a 6 minute demo in their garage. That was strong enough to get a producer friend of a friend involved. He then shopped it around and got the heavy hitters involved. But yeah it started out with some guy doing it in has home.

Re: Home Made "Sky Captain"

Hey Guys I did a similar sort of thing except when I did me short film "Ace Derringer vs. The shadow Men" I hadn't seen or heard of Sky Captain yet.
Please go to http://www.acederringer.com and check out some of the clips, and tell me what you think.

Thanks
Joseph Fagan :)

Re: Home Made "Sky Captain"

well I believe the budget was more like 40 million, and I'm sure bit a lot of that when to the A-list actors in the film.

Re: Home Made "Sky Captain"

Well Thanks George. Sounds like what you are working on will be neat. I have an idea. Put some little guys in teddy bear outfits and have them defeat a crack squadren of armored troops. You'll have a real winner on you hands then.

Oh and dont forget to keep changing the movie every few years! ;)

Re: Home Made "Sky Captain"

Hey Joseph,

Ace Derringer looks cool. You must be pretty bummed about Sky Captain.
