SHORT: Home Again - short horror film

This is a film I worked on as the DP and Gaffer (and helped to fix up and tighten his editing). It was our final project for our film 3 class at school. Shot on B&W super 16 film.

Pass: FeverX (it's cap sensitive, sorry)

Sorry about the interlacing, wasn't me that compressed it. Also the director is planning on re-doing the sound and music (thus the password).

Technical specs are in the description.

Very well done! I loved all the locked down shots and the use of lighting. Nice work.
I also really enjoyed the shadows.

Wasn't quite as creepy as I was hoping but not bad. Sound design can still play a big part in that.
The dolly shot was a little jerky.
The last shot was quite nice. Very nicely done. An old style TV would have nailed it.

Thanks for the comments Mike. Seems like people are watching it but not commenting.

Yeah that's one thing I hoped the director would do, is play with sounds and music to really up the ante. I kept telling him on set "this is going to be all about sound." He had to rush it and didn't use an experienced sound guy to do the final mix for the end of year showing. It really felt lack luster. I was expecting to really feel the house as she walked through it. Hearing the house settle, hearing a creek here and there. So hopefully he's been convinced he needs to up the sound mix a lot. I'll keep pushing for it.

Yeah the dolly shot was tough. We were using a home made dolly, and they're not the most stable. Must have done dozens and dozens of rehearsals.

Thanks again for the comments!

Anyone else?

Wow, 94 views, on the second page, and only 1 comment (after I asked mike to check it out). Is it that people don't want to watch a student film? Is it that they watched the first few seconds and got bored (it's a bit slow, I know, but picks up)? Or did you guys really not like it very much?

In general it's to bad there's a "hum, wind, " noise.

The sound of the water boiling is not very clear to me... I know it's ment to be water boiling....because I know, because I do sound.... But better was
to have those typical "brblrblrblrblr" sounds and maybe a "fwhieeeeeeeeeeeeee" sound.

The "you still make me smile" shots are very well done. When I watch it for the first time, I don't pay attention to the whiteboard on the frigde...it's just there.
Then I do pay attention to it on the close up with the focus pull. And when I watch it again from the start, my attention goes automatically to the whiteboard.
Well...I don't know if that's good or not...But anyway I have noticed the "You still make me smile".

The noise of the TV, maybe it can be made more "anoying" after she turns it of the 2nd and the 3th time ?
A small buzz sound when unplugging it "tsjtsjzzeeetchchetzingggg"

The dialogue may be little louder..it's not very understandable.

Thanks for the comments. When the director gets around to re-doing the sound I'll be sure to give him those suggestions!

Thanks for watching and actually commenting Dre! Really appreciate it, especially since this thread has had at least over 100 views...

And yes, the whiteboard was intentional. The director wanted these elements to feel out of place. He wanted people to double back and think "hmm, was that supposed to be like that?" Sort of how when you're home alone you start imagining things being out of place, or hearing things (which is why he really needs to re-do the sound!)
