Hollywood. Official time of death: 2011.

"World has been destroyed," "our only hope," "second chance..."

In five seconds they have used three of the most common post-apocalyptic zingers in film and television.

Don't know about the rest of you, but NOTHING turns me away from a show/film faster than trite cliches.

Hollywood has been known to make TV shows for quite some time now.

Movies are just bad TV where they couldn't figure out where the commercials went...

Yeah, but, if we're ascertaining Hollywood's time of death based on television shows, I would say it died somewhere around Joanie Loves Chachi.

Curious if they're taking that whole butterfly thing into account. I mean, maybe they screwed up the world in the future because they went back to the past. Hmmmm? Or, maybe it's the humans who hunt the dinosaurs to extinction, thus making way for the rise and dominance of mammals, thus making way for the rise and dominance of...humans...

Terra Nova reminds me of that Ray Bradbury story A Sound of Thunder, which was turned into a film a few years ago. Cool idea, but there is always the question you raise Mark.

I wonder though, if a small group of humans went back, and unless they began to thrive and started a completely new civilization, then maybe they wouldn't be a big enough change to the time-line to really matter? Example #1: travel back in time and kill some Joe Nobody and maybe the time-line isn't really altered, or altered so minimally that it wouldn't really change much at all back in the future. Example #2: go back and kill some world leader like Hitler or Alexander the Great, or prevent some event like 9/11 or Pearl Harbor and then you'd surely have changed the time-line drastically.

Now if hundreds of thousands of future humans went back to the age of the dinosaurs, then that couldn't really be explained away, not even with movie logic.

As for the death of Hollywood...

Oh come on, this is a TV show produced with a fraction of the budget of the JP movies. They look fine.

Why is it unreasonable to expect better, cheaper visual effects after almost 20 years of development?

"People of 2139...."

That's some subtle exposition right there.

Been there, done that!

Jurasia from Universo, an old spanish Roleplay Game (table sitting and dice; not PC) based slightly on MERP. It was fun. I´m totally sold.

And for the setup, probably all your bases are belong to a volcano with about one hundred years to erupt and cover the place; but by the end of the show (or if it´s cancelled...) some baddie will make it show up sooner than expected. Just guessing :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I'm betting they will find a bunch of nice dinosaurs in a hatch, and then they'll go back home momentarily, then they'll return to the dino-land because they feel compelled, and mysterious dinosaurs will appear, seventy-nine characters will die over the course of six seasons, and then it will end without making a lick of sense.

Not for nothing... Humans wouldnt have been able to breathe in the low oxygen, high carbon dioxide atmosphere of the earth during the Jurassic.

100 years from now 99% of the movies will be remakes. There are now hundreds of remakes coming on the next few years alone. Out of ideas, must make money.
