Hollywood Joins Forces with Kodak to Keep Movie Film Alive

The only way really for Hollywood to keep Kodak in business is for them once again to start doing all those prints for theatrical release in film as opposed to digital .... And that's not going to happen......... ever again .

Just read this today, but it's two months old.

Martin Scorsese Rallies to Keep Film Alive

Has nobody explained to him how scales of economy works? Touching article, but unless he wants to personally bankroll the tens-of-millions of dollars (more?) it requires to keep the chemical behemoth alive and at the quality standards we require for motion picture use, he's just another big name in what is an otherwise love-letter to film.

projects originating on film look fantastic projected digitally...for me (and I was born in 91') shooting on kodak 5203 and having a particular look on your showreel got me started professionally and I'm still in school.

Yes, I too think film acquisition is the important part. Film scanners are so good today, I have no problem with digital projection of a film acquisition, unless it's 70mm and then I'm not sure. I prefer to see the film, as it's a unique experience.

However, I think his point was purely on financial grounds. Kodak didn't just make money on the film negative used during production, but back in the day, they made lots of their money from the hundreds, if not thousands, of film prints that were sent across the world for projection.

Instead of making all those film prints, the productions are more and more just capturing on film, scanning and distributing digitally. Kodak sells much less finishing/printing stocks.
