Hollywood eyes $70 zombie movie wowing Cannes

I just hate the perception that it creates...I can hear it already..."Why is this short costing so much?"..."Didn't so and so make a hot feature that got distribution for $70"

I'm seeing a pattern here with the number 7. First Robert Rodriguez made El Mariachi for 7 grand, and now we've got this 70 dollar zombie film. Next we need someone to make a 7 dollar feature film, then one for 70 cents, and finally 7 cents. Although, were is the 700 dollar one that should've been before the 70 zombie film?

I'm personally impressed that he made the film and completed it and THEN took it and got it into Cannes. A lot of us can make movies but we fear to take it to the next step, so my kudos to him.

Maybe it can be an inspiration to get off our asses and get our movies out there in a similar fashion, $70 or $700 budget or whatever notwithstanding.

+1 on Puck's comments.

It's easy for us to be armchair quarterbacks, calling the shots from here. This guy made a movie (for whatever money he made it for), and it's going to get a deal. Good for him.

You do realise that it's a British film & $70 is £43.93 :)

Personally i think it's great he's made it this far, but i'm sick of these camcordered movies, to me, it's just a cop out, so they don't have to compose nice shots with good lighting.

I don't care too much for the cost of the film. I want to know if it's any good? It's hard to say anything negative consider he only had $70 bucks to make.

He's getting in Interviewed by CNN on the coast of France, being courted by People with lots of money. I'm at work on an IBM computer no where near a coast, wondering how I'm going to make money.

Gimmick or no Gimmick, $70.00 or $70,000.00, does not matter, He's doing his damn thing. I have to respect that.

I know all about this. They filmed it around a 20 minute walk / journey from me. Followed them on Myspace from the start.

Was suprised when i heard about the whole Cannes thing though..

And, the paper locally said it cost about 4 quid 50 to make. There's varying reports. Talk about chinese whispers..
