Well, Keanu Reeves is about 33 years OLDER than Kaneda is supposed to be.

Rise sounded pretty good until the trailer. CG apes by weta played by Andy Serkis, James Franco, John Lithgow, Brian Cox...
Also it kinda washes away Tim Burton's movie because it's got nothing to do with it.

So it had a bad trailer, so what?

Nope. Because A) I love the original film, it's one of my favorite sci-fi movies ever, and it'll always be around and B) Even that movie wasn't "original". It was an adaptation of a novel that was completely different.
 
No way am I seeing Akira. No way.
I might sit at home on opening night watching the blu-ray of the REAL akira movie though.


But Rise, I'll keep checking out the trailers and the word of mouth. If they say it's good, I'll see it. If the trailers keep looking as generic as the last, I won't.
 
I'd just like to see less remakes, sequels, prequels, based on's, etc. I guess it wouldn't be so bad if these films actually ended up good, and a few do (Dark Knight, Toy Story. Shawshank better than book), but so many are somewhere between bad, and awful, and just smack of crass commercialism and lack of original anything.
 
He's in a 47n Ronin movie as well, that can't be good. I always wanted to see an adaptation of the Tokaido road it's a great book, but not with keanu in it(47 and Tokaido are not the same but close).

Yeah could not imagine I would go to see this movie in theaters or ever pay for it, but there are those who will and that's why the crap machine that squeezes these out will never die.
 
What I don't get is the reason they would make such drastic changes to this. From a financial standpoint, I mean.

Anyone familiar with the manga or anime would be extremely turned off by that, and anyone not familiar with it would go see it based on the film itself and not because it's a property they recognize.
 
I think thats awesome. I know he's too old for the part, but better him than the young douche bags in Hollywood at the moment. Then again, Asian-American actors would of been much better.

I guess between Keanu Reeves and Justin Bieber, Reeves is the lesser of two evils. But they probably should have cast unknowns.
