HMC80 Cold Shoe Microphone Mount Recommandation

Hi,
I work in a university where we bought two HMC80. I'm trying to build ENG kits with wireless mics, lavs and shotguns. I chose the Panasonic AG-MC200G Super-Directional Camera Mountable Shotgun Microphone thinking it would be an easy fit for the HMC80.

The thing is Panasonic didn't include a Microphone mount in the box (?!?). So, I was wondering what you guys were using for mounting a directional mic. I want something simple and solid (like the mic mount that came with my DVX100, HVX200, HPX170, AF100 etc...), so without elastic band if possible.

Thanks for your help!

You might want to take this to the audio section, but they will tell you the same thing. On cam mounting of any mic is a fools errand for good audio. Obviously if you are running about and have no audio person, then it becomes necessary, but short of that, get the mic off the cam. If you just need reference for sync or emergency use, use the built in mic. The older Panny OEM mic mounts for the DVX and HVX series were pretty lousy for sound for exactly the reason you say you want; no rubber shock bands. It looks like these mounts were eliminated on the HMC80, but it is no big loss. The only real benefit was it left the shoe mount open for a light, but dual shoe adapters are available. A rubber banded mount will improve your sound by significantly reducing by camera handling noise. Look at options by K-Tek or Rycote. Better yet, make a crew of two and get the mic off the cam, onto a pole, and closer to the source where it needs to be.

Hi Philippe

I have Rode Videomics on both my cameras as backup mics and they have nice punch if used close up and for ambient audio. However the suspension sucks!! The rubeer bands break and fall off on a regular basis ..There is a better "non elastic" mount from Rycote too with the "Lyre" series and K-Tec but both are pricey!! What I have done is used a handlebar mounting kit from my GoPro Hero and simply wrapped the mic with a piece of neoprene foam and then clamp it in place..it still has movement and isolation and works really well!! Just bear in mind that the 80 series doesn't have the usual 3.5mm mic input so I needed to rewire my mics to XLR...a far safer solution that using adapters.
