HMC40 versus TM300 (or HS300)

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere...

I read from one post that the HMC40 uses the same sensor as the TM300. Not sure if this is true.

Has anyone got experience with the image quality of the two cameras in comparison?

I have an HMC150 and I am considering a B-roll camera.

Thanks in advance.

Yes they have the same sensor, but control-wise they are very different. For example, I do not believe that the 300 series can shoot in 720p. I just ended up getting a 2nd HMC150, so I know they will match in post.

It has 24p but with pulldown not native and max 17mbps. Actually I've heard it has the same sensor as the hmc40 too. It seems like everyone is going for the hfs100/hfs10/or hfs11. I haven't seen any comparison videos yet.

Hi

If the TM300 and HMC40 have the same type of sensors, will this mean that the light sensitivity is about the same?

As I understood from a review of the TM300 on Camcorderinfo, the TM300 and Canon HV30/40 has about the same sensitivity to low light, and perhaps someone have the HV30/40 and a HMC40 and can confirmt that the light sensitivity is about the same.

ISO = film "speed". Higher numbers = more sensitive. One stop more sensitivity = half as much light needed for the same brightness, = double the ISO number.

So ISO 100 needs half as much light as ISO 50 to deliver the same brightness.

So the HMC40 is a dog in low light. I wonder if it's better than the JVC HM100. Could shooting 72024P at 1/24 shutter improve low light performance?

DV's review of the HM100 lists the ISO at 125, but that was with a 1/24 shutter. I used a 1/48 shutter.

So, based on those numbers I'd say they're exactly the same.
Could shooting 72024P at 1/24 shutter improve low light performance?
Yes, shooting with 1/24 shutter would double the light hitting the sensors.

CCInfo tests (whether you are willing to accept them or not) show that while the Canons show definite improvement in 30p/24p modes with appropriately slowed down shutter speed, the TM200\HS300 has about the same sensitivity in 60i and 24p. This is weird, because this usually happens when a sensor is not native progressive.
