HMC40 low light football

I am considering buying an HMC40, but I ma having a little translating Lux ratings to the EV ratings I am used to for still cameras.

So I'll ask a direct usage question. I shoot HS football at night. Typical still camera shooting parameters are IS0 3200-6400, Aperature 2.8, Shutter speed 1/640. Can the HMC40 create good quality 720p/60fps video of fast moving football players at close range (I am on sidelines) under the lighting conditions I describe?

Thanks in advance any insight.

Not really. You're talking about ISO 3200, the HMC40 is about ISO 50.

Now, normally you wouldn't be shooting video at 1/640 anyway, 1/60 is the typical video shutter speed, so that would buy you back some sensitivity; if you went to 1/60 you'd be at (equivalent) of about ISO 500. So you're still talking about three f-stops difference in light sensitivity. If you were to zoom out enough that the lens could open to f/2.0, and use +12dB of gain, it'd about get you there.

Thank you for the information. Will any under 5K meet the lighting conditions described? How were you able to determine the ISO of a video camera, seems critical piece of information that is elusive.

HMC150 starts out three stops faster than the HMC40, so at 1/60 you'd be right about where you want to be.

ISO of a video camera is determined by using a light meter and waveform monitor, each model has to be individually tested.

+6dB of gain is equal to opening 1 F-Stop.

+3dB of gain is equal to opening 1/2 an F-Stop.
