HMC40 Audio 'hiss'

Jim,
Consider what you're getting for the price: though small, 3MOS sensors that are capable of magnificent imagery, scene file settings, 1080 24p, AVCHD, a decent Leica lens, waveform monitor, syncro scan, user buttons, focus assist, 7 gamma curves to choose from, portability, etc., but you must already know what the camera is capable of -- for $1700. I agree with you that not having "usable" XLR ports sucks royally, especially since you paid more to have that option. Complain to Panasonic, they seem to disagree. It's obvious they cut corners to make this camera more affordable -- relative to other models with similar capabilities. I, like you, am annoyed with the discovery. But, for my purposes this camera works best for the price, and there are solutions to the problem you too can agree with. If not, sell it. Or save your bones for something better, such as the AF100. I'm sure we'll find something wrong with that one too.

Stop telling me how good I have it....

hehehehehe

yea yea I know.

Just bummed about the hiss I discovered.
I'll get over it... eventually

I just better not ask how much I can get selling this thing :o

Panasonic hisss.. Problem. Answer for me, was a mixpre. Well worth the price. Gets the levels off the camera.

How do you interface the Mixpre with the camera? Do you still use the XLR's on the AG-MYA30G? Or do you use the headphone out jack and go into the mini plug ion the HMC40?

Anyone complaining about hiss and wants to sell their camera let me know! i really want to buy an hmc40!
no ones selling them in the san diego/LA area right now :(
ill take it off your hands and put it to good use!
pm me!
Thanks!

It may have someting to do with the XLR adator as I have the same issue of background hiss with my older DVC-30, since the 40 uses the same XLR adapter I am thinking it is the cause.

I gotta agree. I have the DVC30 as well and have the audio hiss on 4 different HMC40s with 4 different XLR adaptors, using 5 different mics total (Lav and shotgun). I never thought about this hiss on the DVC30, because I never needed it to capture high-quality audio.

Being that, I wish I knew of an easy solution to rid the audio of the hiss. I have tried some of the built-in EQs with Final Cut, but am unable to get what I would consider to be an acceptable result. If anyone out there has some settings they wish to share, I think it would be extremely valuable to the community of HMC40 owners.
