HMC150 Wobble Fix

Most HMC150 users never noticed an issue but Panasonic put the same fix as the 170 in just to make sure that the 150's are covered. Please don't panic! I was just mentioning that we have the new stock in just incase someone wanted to know if it was the old or the new. If you aren't experiencing a problem with you camera, then your alright.

Considering the 170 & 150 seem to share the same chassis design it is not that much of a surprise that they both have the "wobble".

The way I see it is that the wobble was first identified in the 170 and is now being rectified. As the 150 is a newer cam the mod is being performed on it prior to delivery, hence why all of the units that have already shipped to end users are not exhibiting the lens wobble, so I wouldn't be too worried about this as it is being rectified :)

"never noticed" does'nt mean that it does'nt exist in the 150- if you dont set up the scenario that displays the condition. Like I said before, most of us 150 owners kept an eye on the 170 forum to see how this "issue" panned out. Many, including me, read that it was not related to the HMC model and purchased one- thinking there would be no problem.

Therefore many havent even looked for it in the 150. There should be a sticky somewhere explaining Pana's view in: what is not an issue "shockmount", what is an issue "image wobble", what model shows what, how to look for it, and what to do if you have the issue. Or perhaps a press release on the AVCCAM and/or P2 Pana websites. Otherwise you have to dig through hundereds of posts of mis-information to find Jan's responses.

What I mean by "Never Noticed" is that the HMC150 cameras weren't affected by the wobble as much as the 170 cameras but since the chassis is so similar, Panasonic decided to update those as well to keep things standard. If you like, you can give me a call and we can discuss further. :)

Not to be combative, but I feel- what current HMC150 (and potential) owners want to hear from is the manufacturer. That's why we choose Panasonic and visit these forums: unlike Sony, they themselves respond to customers concerns.

I think it's only fair that if Pana is shipping new 150s with a strengthened lens mount (to match the 170) current owners of the 150 would want this update as well. This sounds like a preventative measure to make sure that future 150s won't develop the same issue over time. Perhaps if a current 150 shows no issue, but you still wanted the update that the new models get, you pay for shipping.

EDIT: just checked my camera and it appears there is no image shift, and the lens mount gap seems normal. This was a recheck as I had did this when I first got it. Just putting my mind at ease. I still think a sticky detailing what the issue is and is not would help future buyers.
