HMC150 - Terrible problems with strobe lights!

Ill find out the make of strobes used. They are super fast though, unlike most night club strobes I have seen before.
This reminds me a Top Gear segment where they tried to fool a speed camera by driving very fast. If I remember correctly, 170 MPH was the lowest speed at which the camera did not register a car.

Who do I contact at Panasonic to send them my file - and will they care?

Were they constant or a number of rapid fire flashes in a burst?

If the latter, probably Dataflash strobes.

Mythbusters did that one as well :D

Sounds similar to a dataflash. They can flash like crazy. You know, those epileptic seizure inducing type flash rates.

Yeah the spec on it says it can fire at 30fps (in a 60Hz country), over here its PAL land so 25fps. Even at 12.5 fps it would mean the camera would see WHITE normal WHITE normal across the range when the strobe fired and have no way of compressing it well in a long GOP fashion. But the algorhythm should be able to see the preceeding 4 frames and think "oh oh, this aint going so well - give it the full 24mbps" instead of bitcrushing down to ~5mbps as noted in this thread :(

wow that looks horrible, I have some club footage shot in HA and PH mode. I'll be looking at it closely to see if i have any of this problems

Can you select progressive recording in HA mode? I'd give it a shot but on my 151E I've only got interlaced available at the other modes.

I'd send it in to Panasonic service and let them have a look at it. In my admittedly limited experience, those results you are getting definately ain't normal for the 150.

Hey, tell me your computer spec. What computer? What processor?

Artifacting happens when your computer doesn't have enough power to handle certain HD footages.

Ive uploaded the footage and others have downloaded and its the same on their end, not a PC issue Im afraid.

Hi Rikki, any progress with your issue? Did Jan reply back? Did she acknowledge the issue? Did you try the PH interlaced mode, does it show the same amount of artifacts?
