HMC150 problems with PNY card

I recently purchased a used HMC150. I also have an HMC80. I have three 32GB PNY cards with the HMC80 which all seem to work good on that camera. They are class 10 cards. When I tried to use any of these cards on the HMC150, I get a notice on the LCD screen that says "You can't use PH or HA mode with this card". The cards were bought at Best Buy and all have worked properly in the HMC80. I did use the HMC150 to reformat that card(s) as well, but still get the same message. Anyone have any idea of what is going on?

The early HMC150's were *not* compatible with class 10 cards (the reason being class 10 came out after the camera was released, I believe), and required a firmware update in order to use them. Do you know the firmware version of the camera? (Menu>Other Functions>System Info). Chances are if you bought a used one, it may have been one of the early ones and the previous owner didn't update the firmware (heck, I have one of the first ones released and I still haven't updated the firmware... I should probably get around to that...)

My netbook had 32bit os on it so I used that. Only machine I have left that isn't 64bit. Panny needs to do something about that.

Part of the reason I haven't updated yet... all my machines are 64bit.

Look in your basement -- you'll find a six year old laptop running Windows XP that you had no idea still works.

Two days ago I went through the update thing (on that laptop from a basement closet) for the very first time with that HMC150 I bought in 2008. After the ten minutes it took to discover that the (top) handle "REC" button actually has an on/off switch (that was OFF), the update process completed and I tested it with a Class 10 PNY card and it works.

No one has yet answered what the improved "RECODER" is on my newly updated HMC150.

Supposedly people have noticed slightly less 'noise' as compared to the old firmware. I did an A/B test and couldn't tell any difference myself.

I believe Barry Green finally got an answer that it had some compression related improvements including less noise.
