HMC150 Premiere 4.1 Matrox MXO2 Mini

I am about to build a new nle. As I understand the Matrox MXO2 Mini will transcode the AVC files to a format easier to edit in premiere. Is this done by playing the video in camera and transcoding on the fly?

How easy are these files to edit? Why would I need Neo Scene if the MXO2 does the job?

I am coming from Matrox RTX100 system and trying to have as much realtime as possible.

Thanks

Because the live HDMI output from Camera is uncompressed, you can get full quality video if you capture it live from camera, on notebook while shooting.

MXO2 mini on PC side can only capture either uncompressed or MPEG2 I-Frame 50-300Mbps.
Mpeg2 is usually 'light format' on any machine that can edit HDV, but only upto 100Mbps on single HDD, otherwise you may require RAID.

Coming at your point, if you want to convert AVCHD to MPEG2, MXO2 mini can capture it realtime, but possibly you may loose some quality, because AVCHD is anytime better than MPEG2.

On other point, todays Quad-Core Machines with good graphic can edit AVCHD natively.
