HMC150 on camera light / battery options

I agree, but this guy was harping on setting up a a light or 2 around the DJ/Dance floor before the reception... Most of the time it goes unnoticed he says. I shouldn't have said never, but if you can why not. I like an on camera light because it lights what i need it too, but its a bit more intrusive at a dark reception. Next wedding I will be able to give a better opinion.

Yay! Comer is in the mail!

I am using 1 light on main cam and 2 lights on the second cam. So I know how dynamic the scene is to have light shine from a different angle. I'm now considering getting a light stand. But now I have to think about adding sand bags and the stand. My gear bag is getting heavier and heavier. Good that I have an assistant now. =)

I don't really think sandbags are needed 100%... you only need to be smart on the placing of the stands, like next to a DJ stand, corner, behind a table, next to speakers.
Sometimes i put my Pelican case next to the stand, to protect people from kicking or bumping the light.

I agree with MadHMC150 on the lighting, but i do also have an on-camera light available on top of the camera so i could use it whenever needed. Those guys that don't use an on-camera light, many times they have an assistant with a light at a 45 degree angle from them at all times!

Yeah.... sandbags? I know its a popular practice but I always try to tuck it away like Superfresa says...

I like to plant the light and then shoot 20-45 degrees on either side of the light. We also have the on-cam if we need it. But if i put the comer light up there, I wont have it on my camera :(

But if i put the comer light up there, I wont have it on my camera
Then get a few Comers! LOL
I really like this light... the first time i used and LED light i like the fact it was small and light but i felt like there was something missing (the light)... but this comers fit the bill just fine!!!

Just got the Comer 900 in the mail today from http://lacolorShop.com !

Its all ready made me smile :) - Now to find something to shoot tonight!

Were you able to find something to shoot??!?! =)

Now I'm using the Comer 900 light with the F770 battery (the smaller ones) during the day for weddings that I need to interview people. It's lighter than the Comer 1800 + F970 battery. Good to be using it running around during the day.

Although Comer 900 doesn't have a dimmer switch, I taped a piece of paper on the top diffuser. Now with the 2 level brightness control + diffuser ON/OFF + condenser ON/OFF, the combination makes the light is very flexible in different lighting needs. None of the people that I interviewed have to squint their eyes, or complain the light is too bright.

lol, I got sidetracked with these shoots: http://vimeo.com/5754819

I took some different shots with the comer, that night - but need a few more before I edit something up. I am also trying to finish a 3 hour concert so its been tying my editing machine up for longer then I anticipated.

I will have one soon!

Just ordered my Comer from you Taky...send it quick!! :) I ordered the smaller batteries for weight purposes...that will work with the 1800 right? How long?

Andy

Hey Andy, the NP-F770 according to the spec, should last 190 minutes. That's over 3 hours of usage. =)

woow that looks awesome! So how do you like the Comer 900 light? You can also consider using the F770 battery that makes the whole rig less heavy.

Thanks, Love the Comer 900 :) We are considering the 770 battery or what do you think about the 550 battery? How long you think that will last?

Its everything I thought it would be and more. Project depending, we hope to get a Comer 1800 or 2.

Jon, I'm glad you love the Comer 900 light. You can imagine what it's like with double the brightness, a dimmer switch and wider spread. That will be the 1800 light. =)

I haven't tried the F550 battery on the Comers. Their spec mentions using F970 and F770 only. I'm now also using F770 on Comer 1800 so it gets lighter. :)

I cant imagine :)

So, I tried to do your focused beam trick with the Comer 900 and didn't have any luck getting the lens to stay. You put something there to stop it or tighten the screws or something?

THanks!

I just tried my 900 light, it works that way. I can open the condenser lens just a little bit and it stays, well i have to jiggle it a little bit but it stays in that position.

You should have a LED trade-up program, i have a swit/varizoom light that i would love to trade for another Comer1800!!!... Interested? ;)

I just got my 900 from Taky and am very happy with it. It is solid and bright (way brighter than I expected). Taky was first class, and got it shipped right away for me. Great service for sure.

Superfresa66, I wouldn't know what to do with the SWIT light then. I sold mine on ebay. =)
