HMC150 on camera light / battery options

I think that's a sign... it's time for you to get a new light. heheh

But seriously, i'm sure you would find the Comer 900 light be much powerful and better than the current Sony 20W light output.

Taky, you have one of these battery extension cables with your light? This would be great to get the 970 batt off the weight of the camera.

No, it doesn't come with adapter like that. But the light comes with a D-Tap cable that you can connect to other battery pack such as Anton Bauer.

Otherwise, you can use the F770 or F570 (Any L-series Info lithium battery) that will reduce the weight.

yes, all LP products seem very overpriced and underpowered.

as for your backlight test...that's not what i meant. your backlighting is drastically toned down and diffused by those shades drawn over the windows. i've shot interior shots with those same shades in place with no problem. what i want to see is how this light measures up to the sun! ie, i want to see the limit of its abilities, the situation where i expect it to fall short when compared to a halogen/tungsten on-camera light. put that girl outside on a sunny day, with the sun at her back, then turn the light on and let's see if it does anything to brighten the shadow on her face..

I put together another footage showing the backlighting with the Comer 1800 light.

The videos always make me chuckle at the end...

Whats this mean?
"Also demonstrate the result of Zooming in with the the Condenser Trick."

heheh I'm glad you like my videos

The Comer lights by default is diffussed for a good flood output. It also has a flip up condenser that will create a strong spotlight (You can see the spot circult outline too). I found out, if I flip up the condenser but leave it open just a little bit. It will condense the light to a VERY VERY BRIGHT SPOT.

When zooming in, the iris closes down and you have less light goes into the sensor. Thus resulting a very dark video. With the condense trick, I can zoom it and still get a very well lit footage.

That's what I call the condenser lens trick =)

You should be able to see it at the second part of that video demo'ing the output by using that trick.

Ah ha! That makes sence, and I remembered you mentioned that before about the comers.

Now... about your prices - whats with the increase? Besides paying for all these videos you are making about lights, lol.

The price was offered low at a introductory price. There're pressure from Comer to meet the minimum advertise price. I am sure the price will go up more soon too.

Mad... Since you are in Orlando, you might also want to look into getting those camping dome LED lights that they sell at Skycraft over on Fairbanks. For 8 bucks you can get a really nice bright LED round light. I use mine all the time and they are super cheap and take AA batteries. I left mine on for a whole week and when I came back, it was a bit dimmer but it was still on.

For planting lights.. on camera stuff and tight quarters you can't beat 'em for the price and then if you need to, they are a great car light and or light for backstage at shows..

I'm going to check it out - that's one of my favorite stores... I am working on a rail system from some parts I got there a few weeks ago :)

Its funny I made a joke about these lights earlier...

LoL - I got the lights (2) today... They are brighter then I expected, but a little more focused then I would have liked. I think I am going to mount these 2 lights on a stand where I can point them where I want them, and for $7.50 = a deal.

I still need a Comer or equivalent light though...

I heard from Comer today they are going to make an adapter like that to connect to the DC in on the right side of the light. That adapter can also be used as a charger to charge the battery too.

I dont know if anyone has said anything about the MICRO BEAM 128 made by the prompterpeople.com its suposedto be = to 100w lamp I picked one up after looking around alot.... it comes with your choice of camcorder battery connector and is dimmable and comes with some filters to match the room light your in. Iv seen some more expensive that are not dimmable and are not as bright . so far this is very nice. and does not color shift when dimmed.
thanks, randyc

Taky, You have access to these 2 models? (since your reviews are terrific)

R-3 On-Camera Digital LED Video Light Kit

MICRO BEAM 128

______

Randall - Id like to see your micro beam in action. Do you have any footage?

______

MadHMC, no I don't have access to them. Before, I was trying different on-camera lights for my wedding work. So I actually bought all those before (VL-3, VL-10, LP Micro, SWIT, Comer). I'm happy with the Comer so I don't think I will buy the R-3 or the Micro Beam. :)

Mad... they are a bit spotty but as said, at the price you can't beat them with a stick... What I also do is put a wee bit of diffusion on the lights and it spreads it out and softens it but it also cuts down on the light a lot.. so don't use really heavy diffusion.

They are great though right? I mean... for the cash it's hard to compare and or beat 'em and they will run on those AA's for a really long time.

cheers

Oh wait till you see what I have been up to...

While I was saving up for the Comer - I'm starting my own light manufacturing company :)

I put 2 together to work off one set of 4xAA's. Working on the focusing of the LED's then I am going to build a nice box for them... Its pretty darn bright!
