HMC150 for ghost hunting???

does anyone know how well the hmc150 does with IR illumination? i love my camera, but i have been asked by a few ghost hunting groups if i could capture some HD footage of their hunts. i hate to use the old DV sony "night shot" cams i have. i was wondering how well the hmc150 would do with some IR light panels (probably build them myself) used for illumination...

if no one knows, i may just build some lights and see how it works. in which case, i'll be posting the results for others with the same question...

thank you all
jon

Most every camcorder has IR filtration put into place specifically to prohibit the IR portion of the spectrum. I suspect that your HMC150 will be blind as a bat with IR illumination.

The NightShot cameras had a switch that would remove the IR filter, allowing it to expose for IR.

that's what i'm afraid of... sony makes an HD cam that has "night shot: but it's tape based, and i'm really getting to hate tapes... i wonder if there's any way to turn the filter off, or if it's a physical filter... the sony is obviously just a digital filter (it would seem anyhow)

It should be a physical filter that you'd have to physically remove.

I'm not sure which Sony HD cam you're talking about, presumably it's an HDV model? They have a compactflash recorder that you might be able to plug in, and therefore you could have tapeless and HD and nightshot all together?

hmmm... that's a good idea... the sony hd model is the HDR-HC9. i'm not a huge sony fan and love my hmc150. whay can't i have the best of both worlds :) maybe i'll buy a lotto ticket and buy a RED camera with a special removable filter (i'm sure i could talk them into that)... hehehe
