im using a PC, pentium 4, 3g Ram, 4.3 GHz and i know i got a kickass video card, recently got the CS4 suite and its time to edit.

but my video playback is choppy, so choppy im posting a thread to get everyone's input on it. i was once told when you open a new project, its best to load the preset in the same format as the camera recorded the footage in?, if i even wrote that correctly. i have waited a while to finally have a program that can 'nativly' support avchd, but as i said i am having problems with choppy playback, i was too excited!

help?

"pentium 4" -- Pentium 4?

If you're saying the Pentium 4 chip, and not a quad something -- the very bad news is the problem is entirely your computer. You want a quad something at a minimum -- minimum. If you want HMC150 file editing to be fun and effortless -- you need an Intel i7 -- minimum (not i5). Yes, Premiere will edit HMC150 files natively -- but it's not going to be an enjoyable editing process on a Pentium 4.

If you can't upgrade your computer -- then you need to transcode. Use the MainConcept transcoder offered free by Panasonic to transcode to DVCPROHD -- and those files should edit without much difficulty on your system.

Good luck!

could be the processor, thanks people

I have edited HMC150 footage on a Pentium 4, 3GHz with 2GB ram. It was painful. I now edit on a I7 quad 940 with 6GB ram. It is less painful. I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 9c.

For projects with mostly cuts and not many overlaying tracks the i7 works fine. I just finished a project where I routinely had 9 video tracks and lots of track motion. I ended up transcoding all the mts to mxf.

For your P4, you might try transcoding to something more friendly to slow processors.
